TRADITIONAL ART
From 2 to 6 participants
Naxos, with its remote villages and lively local life, retains much of its traditional arts and crafts, with the younger generations eagerly continuing the tradition of their forefathers.
Greek sandal making, textile on the loom, pottery or mosaic classes are available and you can try your skills in one of these traditional arts, still in practice on the island!
Price per person: Upon request
You can choose among our traditional art classes:
Textile on the loom: Women of Naxos have been traditionally renowned for their exquisite art of textile on the loom. Our local weaver will introduce you to the process of producing textile before she trusts you a seat on her loom.
The art of Greek sandals: An ancient craft lending its charm to modern fashion, sandal making is still alive today. Combining high quality products with simple decoration, our expert craftsman prepares Greek sandals from scratch in an interactive session, where visitors are welcome to ask questions during the demonstration. There is no participation in the making of sandals.
Mosaic class: Explore your creativity and learn about classical and contemporary mosaic making during this workshop. The class begins with a short introduction of the various methods, tools and techniques before continuing to the creation of a mosaic, in the unique environment of a medieval restored monastery.
Pottery class: An opportunity to learn the basics of pottery and create your own artefact in an original pottery workshop. Find out the materials and techniques passed on from father to son and take home your own piece of art!
